If you’re a fan of independent cinema and the vibrant culture of downtown New York in the 90s, then head over to The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) on 11 West 53rd St. to watch the newly restored 4k version of the 1995 film “Party Girl”. Directed by Daisy von Scherler Mayer and starring Parker Posey, this film explores the intersection of the city’s party scene and the art world, making it a must-see for art enthusiasts and beyond.

Opening: “THE DELICATE THINGS THAT GIRLS DO”

Signs and Symbols Gallery presents an all-female group exhibition titled “Untitled (A Real Torture Would…)” on June 16th from 6-8 pm. The exhibition’s title references a notable artwork by Jenny Holzer, “Inflammatory Essays” (1979-1982).

Featuring the work of ten talented and accomplished artists such as Rachael Catharine Anderson, Sarah Anderson, Shaqayeq Arabi, Annabel Daou, Ornella Fieres, Karen Finley, Jeewi Lee, Rachel Libeskind, Linder, Pola Sieverding, and Ann Weathersby, this exhibition explores the complicated and uncertain territory that female artists inhabit.

The show aims to shed light on what it means to be a woman and an artist at the same time through various forms of artwork. The Holzer piece that inspired the title of the exhibition emphasizes the theme “A REAL TORTURE WOULD BE TO BUILD A SPARKLING CAGE WITH 2-WAY MIRRORS AND STEEL BARS,” presenting the complexity and nuances of the artists’ experiences.
