‘Party Girl’ 4k Restoration Screening

Opening: “a signal urgent but breaking”
Calling all art lovers! Head over to Perrotin Gallery at 130 Orchard Street from 6-8 pm to see tomorrow’s rising stars in the art world. The gallery is showcasing the Yale MFA Painting and Printmaking Class of 2023, giving you a chance to preview the work of these talented artists before they make it big.
The exhibition promises a powerful and unifying theme in the words of one of the program’s co-teachers, “Emerging into a post-pandemic cultural landscape, the cohort reminds us of the profound lessons learned since 2020: to dig deep roots and cherish our immediate environments; to value the exploration and expression of oneself that transcends conventional routines and institutional systems; and to recognize the essential need to care intensely for those who weather these uncertain times with us.”

Opening: “THE DELICATE THINGS THAT GIRLS DO”
Signs and Symbols Gallery presents an all-female group exhibition titled “Untitled (A Real Torture Would…)” on June 16th from 6-8 pm. The exhibition’s title references a notable artwork by Jenny Holzer, “Inflammatory Essays” (1979-1982).
Featuring the work of ten talented and accomplished artists such as Rachael Catharine Anderson, Sarah Anderson, Shaqayeq Arabi, Annabel Daou, Ornella Fieres, Karen Finley, Jeewi Lee, Rachel Libeskind, Linder, Pola Sieverding, and Ann Weathersby, this exhibition explores the complicated and uncertain territory that female artists inhabit.
The show aims to shed light on what it means to be a woman and an artist at the same time through various forms of artwork. The Holzer piece that inspired the title of the exhibition emphasizes the theme “A REAL TORTURE WOULD BE TO BUILD A SPARKLING CAGE WITH 2-WAY MIRRORS AND STEEL BARS,” presenting the complexity and nuances of the artists’ experiences.

Return of the Vermeers: New Insights on Three Masterworks
If you didn’t get the chance to see the recently closed landmark exhibition at the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, featuring the works of the Dutch Master Johannes Vermeer, don’t worry. The Frick Madison on 945 Madison Avenue is displaying three of his works: Officer and Laughing Girl, Girl Interrupted at Her Music, and Mistress and Maid.
With only 35 works attributed to Vermeer, seeing these pieces at the museum can be a momentous occasion. Visitors can also see additional Vermeer paintings at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which loaned Young Woman with a Lute and Allegory of the Catholic Faith to the Frick, soon to be back on view.
